Apple introduces Tap to Pay feature for iPhone users in the UK
Apple has recently launched its Tap to Pay service in the UK, enabling businesses to accept contactless payments directly through iPhones, eliminating the need for separate card or NFC readers.
Apple Stores in the United States initially introduced Tap to Pay in May 2022, and since then, it has gradually expanded to other countries. Australia, for example, gained access to the service in May 2023.
Jennifer Bailey, Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, expressed enthusiasm about the impact of Tap to Pay on the checkout experience across various businesses. She announced that Apple is delighted to support merchants in the United Kingdom, enabling them to accept contactless payments effortlessly, securely, and privately using the convenience and security of iPhone. Notably, no additional hardware is required for this service.
Bailey emphasized the vital role played by small and medium-sized businesses in the U.K. economy and highlighted the collaborative efforts of payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks in making it easier than ever for U.K. businesses to accept contactless payments and foster growth.
To utilize Tap to Pay, businesses in the U.K. must integrate the feature into their iOS apps and offer it as a payment option. Revolut and Tyl by NatWest are the first U.K. payment platforms to offer Tap to Pay for business customers. Additionally, Apple announced that Adyen, Dojo, myPOS, Stripe, SumUp, Viva Wallet, Worldline, and Zettle by PayPal will be launching Tap to Pay support soon.
Furthermore, U.K. Apple Stores are set to adopt Tap to Pay in the following weeks, further enhancing the convenience and efficiency of contactless payments.
