Top U.S. Cities for Coffee Lovers in 2024

Portland, Oregon claimed the top spot with a score of 67.01, narrowly surpassing San Francisco, California, which came in second with a score of 65.80. The two West Coast cities swapped places from WalletHub’s 2023 ranking, where San Francisco had been ranked as the best coffee city in the nation.
Portland claimed the top spot due to its abundance of highly-rated and budget-friendly coffee shops. On average, residents spend $170 annually on coffee, placing them 18th in the nation for coffee expenditure.
In second place, San Francisco households spend more than $280 per year on coffee, ranking them second in the country. Additionally, 11% of households in San Francisco own an espresso or cappuccino machine—the highest percentage in the U.S.
